Each of the homes that we renovate, add on to, or build out a basement ADU presents us with required code upgrades and appeals for issues that we must overcome as these homes were built as much as 100 years ago or more. Each project requires ingenuity so that it looks and lives like it was always part of the original design while maintaining our budget and schedule. As soon as we removed the old flooring and drywall, we discovered that the walls were leaking badly, so immediately we switched gears to waterproof the entire foundation seven feet below grade.
We had a young couple whose parents had sold their home in a different state and were on their way to move into this ADU. We fit storage, full laundry room, a comfortable-size bed and bath along with required egress windows that not only provide an escape route but let in much needed light. Once again, we finished on schedule and the lovely parents arrived and moved right in.
