PROJECT:
"Japanese-Style Craftsman" (Addition/Remodel)
We had 4 months to design and build this house because the owner and attorney's wife was due with their third child in 5 months and I guaranteed that they would be settled in for the arrival of the new family member. The original home was 1400 sq. ft., 2 bed, and 1 bath, but when we were finished, it was 2400 sq. ft., 4 bed, and 3 bath. We gutted it inside and out and made everything new. Cherry cabinets, granite counters, 2 fireplaces with sandstone and mahogany mantles, bright solid maple flooring throughout. Wood clad windows. Smooth putty coat drywall. Venetian plaster, clear smooth cedar lap siding, and clear cedar shake Wainscott. The stains for the gable vents and front door were custom blended to match a purple that the owners had liked. The posts, rafters, and eaves were designed and fabricated to give the entry a "Japanese craftsman" feel.
